ABSTRACT

Based on the story of Chinese idiom, (a magical and skilled form of craftsmanship) as the breakthrough point, this paper discusses the both (cook) and the experienced acupuncture practitioner have the same high skills and explores the potential relationship between mind-regulation in treatment with acupuncture and flow theory. It is believed that the skills of ancient acupuncture practitioner in mind-regulation with acupuncture is not only a kind of "Tao" mode, but also a state of "flow". By the discussion on mind-regulation and flow theory, modern people may have more clear recognition on the mind regulation in treatment with acupuncture so as to better determine the therapeutic methods of acupuncture for mind-regulation.

ABSTRACT

Huangdi Neijing has a disease concept named Yi ‘Wei' disease which is similar to ‘frailty'. Yi disease is characterized by physical and/or mental dysfunctions eventually being unable to stand up. Yi disease are classified into five types : the lung Yi ‘qi deficiency', the heart Yi ‘vascular disorders', the liver Yi ‘muscle weakness' like sarcopenia or ‘qi stagnation', the spleen Yi ‘spleen deficiency, weight loss or excess weight', and the kidney Yi ‘kidney deficiency'. Each condition can be treated by Kampo medicines. Therefore, frailty can be treated by Kampo medicines systematically and strategically. The author reports here two cases of frailty with weight loss successfully treated by Kampo medicines in giving priority to spleen Yi morbid state. One of 2 patients had a drug induced gastrointestinal disorder caused by probably previously taking Kampo hachimigan. After treating the spleen Yi, she became able to take hachimigan for the kidney Yi again. These cases suggest that high priority should be given to restoring spleen conditions, or digestive functions in treating frailty with weight loss caused by anorexia or digestive dysfunction.

On this basis, it was discussed that moxibustion on heat-sensitive acupoints could induce which conforms to the original definition described in . Additionally, the method of moxibustion for stimulating , the screening of the items on in moxibustion as well as the preliminary evaluation were introduced in the paper. ABSTRACT

In order to identify the differences between " in () and " in (), the edition of Ninna-ji, Japan, the author analyzed all " and "of the extant , its annotation books, its handed-down books and its collated books during the past dynasties. " and " are similar in Chinese character pattern. The authors had also analyzed the evolution factors of Chinese character patterns in detail, which induced the misunderstanding of " as ". Hence, the phonology and Chinese exegetics were adopted in analysis. " and "()" were completely same in ancient pronunciation. In compliance with the theory as seeking for the connotation from the pronunciation, " was explained as "()", meaning cleft needling or point needling. Additionally, the academic significance of " was explored. It was believed that it was the specific recognition stage from the vessel to the point regarding the sites of acupuncture and moxibustion in terms of the differences in needling techniques, i.e. vessel needling, muscle needling or tendon needling. It is concluded that " resulted from the misunderstanding of " in the books of different dynasties, hence, the mistakes in the explanation and annotation of " since the Northern Song Dynasty have been clarified.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To explore the acupuncture prescriptions and regularity of acupoints matching in (').@*METHODS@#Based on the manual retrieval of articles regarding acupuncture prescriptions in an acupuncture prescriptions database of was constructed. The frequency analysis was used to analyze the acupuncture prescriptions and regularity of acupoints matching from 8 aspects: prescriptions of single acupoint/acupoints combination, specific acupoints, principles of acupoint selection, acupoint matching methods, symptoms/diseases, names and classifications of diseases in traditional Chinese medicine, acute/chronic diseases, local symptom/systemic symptom.@*RESULTS@#A total of 146 acupuncture prescriptions were obtained, including 76 prescriptions for single acupoint and 70 prescriptions for acupoints combination. The single-point prescription mostly involved specific acupoints, especially five- acupoints and crossing acupoint; acupoints were mainly selected in five- acupoints, and distant acupoint selection was the first choice for single-point prescription. The prescription of acupoints combination mostly involved combination of specific acupoints, especially five- acupoint combined with five- acupoint, and distant acupoint selection was the first choice for acupoints combination prescription; the acupoints combination prescription was mainly based on left-right acupoint matching method and same-meridian acupoint matching method. The single-acupoint prescription was applied for diseases of 4 systems, involving 61 diseases; acupoints combination prescription was applied for diseases of 3 systems, involving 47 diseases. The single-acupoint and acupoints combination prescriptions were mainly used to treat internal medical diseases. The single-acupoint prescriptions were used for patients with multiple symptoms, fewer diseases, more acute diseases and more local symptoms; acupoints combination prescriptions were used for patients with more diseases, fewer symptoms, more chronic diseases and more systemic symptoms.@*CONCLUSION@#The acupuncture prescriptions in are mostly based on distant acupoints, and most of them are single acupoint prescriptions. In multi-acupoint prescriptions, the combination of five- acupoints are mostly used, especially left-right acupoint matching method and same-meridian acupoint matching method. Single acupoint is used to treat acute and local symptoms, and multi-acupoint is used to treat chronic and systemic diseases.

ABSTRACT

Acupuncture in Chinese medicine has been a treasure in Chinese traditional medicine for thousands of years. It is opposite to many basic theories in modern medicine in dynasties. Different from the cross compatibility and interactions among medical medicines, acupuncture in Chinese medicine has its own consolidation and inherent philosophical ideas. In view of this, how to discuss the philosophical ideas and its development of acupuncture in Chinese medicine becomes of great importance. It is crucial to clearly answer the three theoretical propositions in the development of acupuncture in Chinese medicine. Firstly, the differences in acupuncture should be identified between the ancient time and the modern time. The issues focus on the origin of() and its philosophical divergence. Secondly, the origin of acupuncture should be identified, whether it is from China or India. Thirdly, the differences in acupuncture should be identified between China and the west, focusing on the explanation and rectification of the interrelationship between the acupuncture in Chinese medicine and the western acupuncture. Hence, the basic features are discussed on the reality of acupuncture in Chinese medicine as well as its diversity. Finally, the proposition is extended on how to holistically grasp the philosophical foundation of acupuncture in Chinese medicine and its future trend.
